Donato is now a little over five months old and for those of you who don't know he is our million dollar baby. He has been hospitalized twice since his birth and goes to the doctors at least once a week. He is happy though and through everything he still laughs and smiles at you.
Donato has many food allergies as we have learned through trial and error. He has to drink a special formula that breaks down the protein for him because his little body can't, it too is also soy and milk free (he is severely allergic to milk and has a hard time with soy). We also found out after he got a horrible Gluten rash that he is allergic to gluten as well. So needless to say we introduce foods at a very slow rate and just hope for the best. Unfortunately, we found out a few weeks ago Donato is allergic to green beans, of all things. We had been feeding him Earths Best Rice Cereal (gluten free), pears, and sweet potatoes, when we decided to try the green beans. I was actually very excited that we were about to introduce his fourth food and so far so good. He was not to interested in the green beans at first but he ended up finishing a jar for me.
THEN
About an hour after he finished I noticed his face was red and he had bites on his arms. I picked him up and started looking him over and quickly realized he didn't have bites but hives. The poor guy was allergic to green beans and had broken out in hives all over the top half of his body. His poor little checks got the brunt of it, they cracked and started to bleed. I of course called his doctor right away and they wanted to see him right away. Jason took him in and they confirmed that he was having an allergic reaction to the green beans. For the next two days I had to keep all food other then formula away from him and put cream on his poor little checks as much as he would stand it. On top of the hives the poor guy got a horrible rash that night, we ended up letting him go free as a bird for a few hours and just cleaned up the pee when he went.
Happy as can be after a few bits of the green beans.
What a silly little boy!!!
Look at that face!!!!

ALL DONE!!!
As you can see nothing on his face or arms.
This was taken two days after and if you notice his poor little checks are still red. If you blow the picture up you can also see little hives (they look like pimple's) all over his face.
The conclusion we have all come to is Donato is only allowed a few bits of new foods now to see how his body will react to them. The good news is we have added banana's, squash, and pears to his diet with out any problems. I need to try to get another green in there but to tell you the truth I am a bit scared. The green bean incident really scared me because it could have been a lot worst, thank God it wasn't but still.

Poor little guy. Hopefully as he gets older his immune system will get better, and so will his diet. However you are right, amazingly he is a very happy baby.
